A Roof Warranty is more than the fine print. It is a fundamental tool in understanding what you’re getting from your roofing system, and how much you are protected.

In the roofing industry, there are two types of warranties: manufacturer warranties and labor warranties. A manufacturer warranty is issued by the roofing material manufacturer, and it covers material defects. The roofing contractor issues the labor warranty, and it covers the workmanship from that contractor.

Manufacturer’s Warranty

A manufacturer’s warranty is applicable when a roofing system fails before its expected lifespan. A manufacturer’s warranty typically covers manufacturer defects and premature failure of the roof system.

The length of a manufacturer warranty doesn’t guarantee full coverage for material defects. Don’t assume that a lifetime warranty means that you’re fully covered in the event of a problem. Coverage on a manufacturer warranty can vary greatly from company to company. Some manufacturers pro-rate warranties and some do not. Some require the roof to leak for coverage and others do not. Manufacturer warranties can be hard to navigate as a consumer, which is why we only work with trustworthy vendors who properly honour their warranties.

We can help you understand what your warranty includes and can advise you on any question or concern that you may have. If, for example, you have a failed roof system, and it’s determined that the roofing materials were installed incorrectly, the warranty can be voided in many cases (in the event of poor installation, a labor warranty should have you covered).

Labor Warranty

The roofing contractor issues this warranty, and it’s typically limited to workmanship-related defects. At Mountain West Roofing, we provide an easy-to-understand 5-10-year warranty that details the extent of our coverage. Our warranty covers all labor performed by Mountain West Roofing employees. Because some manufacturer warranties don’t cover the workmanship, it is in your best interest to hire a company with a proven track record. Mountain West Roofing is BBB accredited with an A+ Rating.
